Overview

The Licensure Examination for Teachers (officially the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers, or LEPT) is the board exam required by Republic Act No. 7836, the Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994. It is given by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) through the Board for Professional Teachers, usually twice a year, in March and September.

Passing the LET lets you register as a Licensed Professional Teacher (LPT). You get a PRC Certificate of Registration and Professional ID. Under RA 7836, you need a valid PRC registration to practice as a teacher in elementary and secondary schools, and DepEd requires it for appointment to public school teaching posts.

The exam is separate for the Elementary and Secondary levels. Every examinee takes General Education and Professional Education. Secondary examinees, and since September 2025 some elementary programs such as BSNEd and BECEd, also take a Specialization part that matches their degree. This reviewer covers General Education and Professional Education, the two parts every LET taker must pass.

Who should take it

  • Graduates of BEEd, BSEd, BECEd, BSNEd, BPEd, BCAEd, BTLEd, or BTVTEd who want a license to teach
  • Graduates of other bachelor's degrees who completed at least 18 units of Professional Education (e.g., through a CPE/CTP program) and want to teach in high school
  • Teachers already in private schools who need a PRC license to keep or advance in their posts
  • Previous LET takers who did not pass and are retaking (repeaters)
  • Aspiring DepEd public school teachers, since a valid PRC license is required for appointment

Tips to pass

Know your exact parts first. BEEd takers face GE and PE only, while Secondary and some elementary programs (BECEd, BSNEd, BPEd, BCAEd, BTLEd, BTVTEd) also take Specialization. Plan your study hours around the weights: PE carries 60% for BEEd and 40% for Secondary.

Remember the 50% floor. Even with a high average, you fail if any single part goes below 50%, so don't skip your weakest subject.

Build a 10–12 week plan: about 40% of your time on Professional Education, 30% on General Education, and 30% on Specialization (if you have one). Use the last 2 weeks only for mock exams and review of mistakes.

For Prof Ed, master the theorists: Piaget, Vygotsky, Erikson, Kohlberg, Bronfenbrenner, Bruner, Ausubel, Gardner, Bandura, and Skinner. Many items are classroom scenarios asking which theory applies.

Memorize key laws by number and name: RA 7836, RA 9293, RA 4670, RA 10533, RA 9155, RA 10627, RA 7610, RA 11476, and the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers. Make flashcards that say "RA number → title → one key provision."

Practice assessment computations by hand: mean, median, mode, z-scores, difficulty and discrimination indices. They are easy points if you know the formulas.

Read every scenario item for the role of the teacher. The best answer is usually the most learner-centered, ethical, and professional choice, not the strictest one.

Answer every item. A blank is a sure zero, while an educated guess still has a chance. Eliminate two choices first, then decide.

Pace yourself: GE has 2 hours and PE has 3 hours in PRC's published program. Mark hard items and come back to them; don't spend more than about a minute on any one item on the first pass.

Prepare exam-day items the night before: Notice of Admission, valid ID, several No. 2 pencils, a black-ink ballpen, and a long transparent plastic envelope. Follow PRC's dress code (white collared top tucked in, decent pants or slacks) and bring packed food. Bags and phones are not allowed inside rooms.

Check your room assignment on prc.gov.ph 2–3 days before the exam, and visit the testing school ahead of time if you can. PRC programs require you to report as early as 5:30 a.m., and late examinees are not admitted.

File early. LET slots at popular testing centers and appointment dates at Regional Offices fill up fast, especially near the deadline.

1. General Education

Choose the word that correctly completes the sentence: "Neither the principal nor the teachers ____ joining the Brigada Eskwela clean-up this Saturday."

  1. A.is
  2. B.are
  3. C.was
  4. D.has been
Show answer

Answer: B. are — With "neither...nor," the verb agrees with the subject closer to it. "Teachers" is plural and the sentence is in the present, so "are" is correct.

2. Professional Education

Republic Act No. 7836, which created the Licensure Examination for Teachers, is officially known as the:

  1. A.Magna Carta for Public School Teachers
  2. B.Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994
  3. C.Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013
  4. D.Governance of Basic Education Act of 2001
Show answer

Answer: B. Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994 — RA 7836 is the Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994. The Magna Carta is RA 4670, the K to 12 law is RA 10533, and the Governance of Basic Education Act is RA 9155.

  2. B.maramdamin
  3. C.mapagbiro
  4. D.mapag-isa
Show answer

  1. A.₱279
  2. B.₱299
  3. C.₱289
  4. D.₱311
Show answer

Answer: C. ₱289 — Chalk: 3 × ₱45 = ₱135. Markers: 2 × ₱38 = ₱76. Total = ₱211. Change = ₱500 − ₱211 = ₱289.

5. General Education

The quiz scores of five learners are 82, 75, 90, 88, and 85. What is the mean score?

  1. A.84
  2. B.85
  3. C.86
  4. D.83
Show answer

Answer: A. 84 — Add the scores: 82 + 75 + 90 + 88 + 85 = 420. Divide by 5: 420 ÷ 5 = 84.

Frequently asked questions

What is the passing score for the LET?

You need a weighted general average of at least 75%, with no rating below 50% in any part (GE, PE, or Specialization). This standard comes from the Board for Professional Teachers and is printed in PRC's LEPT program.

When is the next LET?

The latest LET was held September 20, 2026, with results targeted for November 27, 2026. As of October 2026, PRC has not yet released its 2027 schedule. The LET is usually held in March and September, and PRC typically announces next year's calendar in November. Watch prc.gov.ph and the official PRC Facebook page.

How much is the LET fee?

PRC lists the examination fee for Professional Teachers at ₱900.00, paid online through LERIS when you apply.

I'm a repeater. Do I still need to go to the PRC office?

Under PRC's current guidelines, BEEd repeaters no longer need to appear personally, as long as PRC tags your uploaded TOR and documents within 7 days after the filing deadline. PRC Resolution No. 1935 (s. 2024) sets conditions such as using the exact same name, course, and exam as your earlier application. First-timers must still appear in person.

I'm not an education graduate. Can I take the LET?

Yes, for the Secondary level, if you have a bachelor's degree with at least 18 units in Professional Education (commonly earned through a Certificate in Professional Education or Teaching Certificate Program). You'll take GE, PE, and the Specialization that matches your major.

What happens if I fail but come close?

Under RA 7836 as amended by RA 9293, examinees who fail with a rating not lower than five percentage points below the passing average may be eligible as para-teachers through a special permit from the Board. You can retake the LET in the next scheduled exam.

What do I do after passing?

Register in person at the PRC office set for your testing center. Bring your Notice of Admission, the accomplished oath form, two passport-size colored photos with white background and name tag, two documentary stamps, and a short brown envelope. Then take your oath to receive your Certificate of Registration and Professional ID.

Is the LET computer-based now?

Not yet. PRC's 2026 exam calendar marks only some smaller exams as computer-based (CBLE). The LET is still given as a pen-and-paper exam at testing centers nationwide.
