Overview
The PNP Entrance Examination (PNPE) is the written qualifying exam run by the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM). It is usually given twice a year, together with the PNP Promotional Examination, at testing centers across all NAPOLCOM regional offices.
If you pass, you get the PNP Entrance Eligibility. NAPOLCOM describes this as the eligibility appropriate for appointment to the entry rank of Patrolman/Patrolwoman. Passing does not get you hired on its own. You still apply for PNP recruitment and go through its physical, medical, neuro-psychiatric, and background checks.
The exam is for Filipino college graduates aged 30 or below who want a career in the police. It is also for Patrolmen and Patrolwomen holding a temporary appointment because they lack the right eligibility. The exam tests general information (the Constitution, PNP law, the criminal justice system, current events, and values), verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and logical reasoning.
Who should take it
- Bachelor's degree holders aged 30 or below who want to join the PNP as a Patrolman/Patrolwoman
- Criminology graduates and other college graduates targeting the next PNP recruitment cycle
- Patrolmen/Patrolwomen holding a temporary appointment because they lack the appropriate eligibility
- Graduating students who will have their diploma and Transcript of Records before the filing period
Exam format
Who can apply (eligibility)

- Height (for PNP appointment, per RA 11549): at least 1.57 m for men and 1.52 m for women. Members of indigenous cultural communities may get a height waiver, and NAPOLCOM Region I lists 1.52 m (male) and 1.45 m (female) for NCIP/NCMF-certified applicants, with supporting documents.

Schedule
As of October 2026
NAPOLCOM usually holds the PNP Entrance Exam twice a year, around April and October, on a Sunday. The first 2026 exam was on April 19, 2026, and its results came out in June 2026. The second 2026 exam was held on October 18, 2026 (per napolcom.gov.ph), with online registration on August 17–21, 2026, so results are expected around December 2026. No 2027 dates have been officially announced yet. Registration windows are short (about a week), so follow napolcom.gov.ph and NAPOLCOM's Facebook page closely.
Where to apply & take the exam
You file in person at any of NAPOLCOM's 17 Regional Offices (pick one during online scheduling), and the exam is held at testing centers in each region. Results are also posted at the NAPOLCOM One-Stop-Shop at the central office in Quezon City.
Tips to pass
Make a 6-to-8-week plan. Spend weekdays on one part each (General Information, Verbal, Quantitative, Logical) and take a full timed mock every weekend.
Know the key laws by number and title: RA 6975 (created the PNP), RA 8551 (PNP reform), RA 11200 (new ranks), RA 9165, RA 9262, RA 9344, RA 9745, RA 10175, and RA 7438. These come up again and again in General Information.
Read Article III (Bill of Rights), Article VII (the President and martial law), and Article XVI, Section 6 (one civilian police force) of the 1987 Constitution at least twice.
Follow the news for 2–3 months before the exam. Current events and social awareness items cover national issues, government programs, and recent laws.
Calculators are not allowed, so drill mental math every day: percentages, fractions, ratios, speed-distance-time, and work problems.
For value judgment questions, choose the answer that is lawful, honest, and respects human rights, even if a 'shortcut' answer looks practical.
In logical reasoning, write the pattern down (differences, multipliers, letter positions A=1 to Z=26) instead of guessing from the look of the series.
Answer every item. Skip hard ones, mark them on your scratch paper, and come back. Leaving items blank guarantees zero points for them.
Shade the answer sheet with a No. 2 pencil, fill the circles completely, and check that the item numbers line up every 10 items.
Prepare the night before: Notice of Admission, two government-issued IDs with signature, No. 2 pencils, a plain white shirt, and dark pants. Leave your phone and gadgets behind; they are prohibited.
Visit your testing center a day early if you can, and arrive at least an hour before the exam. Late examinees are usually not admitted.
Register as soon as the online window opens. Slots and the registration period are limited, and unpaid applications are forfeited after 48 hours.

1. General Information
Under Article XVI, Section 6 of the 1987 Constitution, the State shall establish and maintain one police force, which shall be national in scope and ______ in character.
- A.civilian
- B.military
- C.regional
- D.paramilitary
Show answer
Answer: A. civilian — The Constitution requires one police force that is national in scope and civilian in character. This is why the PNP is under the DILG and NAPOLCOM, not the military.
2. Verbal Reasoning
VIGILANT most nearly means:
- A.watchful
- B.violent
- C.careless
- D.forgetful
Show answer
Answer: A. watchful — Vigilant means alert and watchful for danger, as in a vigilant guard. 'Careless' is close to its opposite.
3. Quantitative Reasoning
A patrol car travels 180 km in 2 hours and 30 minutes. What is its average speed?
- A.72 km/h
- B.60 km/h
- C.75 km/h
- D.90 km/h
Show answer
Answer: A. 72 km/h — Speed = distance ÷ time. 2 hours 30 minutes = 2.5 hours, so 180 ÷ 2.5 = 72 km/h.
4. Logical Reasoning
What number comes next in the series? 2, 6, 12, 20, 30, ___
- A.42
- B.40
- C.36
- D.44
Show answer
Answer: A. 42 — The differences are 4, 6, 8, 10, so the next difference is 12: 30 + 12 = 42. (Each term is also n × (n + 1): 6 × 7 = 42.)
5. General Information
Which of the following is NOT one of the five pillars of the Philippine criminal justice system?
- A.Prosecution
- B.Legislature
- C.Corrections
- D.Community
Show answer
Answer: B. Legislature — The five pillars are law enforcement, prosecution, courts, corrections, and the community. Congress (the legislature) makes the laws but is not a pillar.
Frequently asked questions
Does passing the NAPOLCOM exam make me a police officer right away?
No. Passing gives you the PNP Entrance Eligibility, which qualifies you to be appointed as a Patrolman/Patrolwoman. You still have to apply when the PNP opens recruitment and pass its physical agility, medical, neuro-psychiatric, and background checks.
Can I take the exam if I am not a Criminology graduate?
Yes. NAPOLCOM requires a bachelor's degree, not a specific course. Graduates of any CHED-recognized four-year degree can apply, as long as they meet the age requirement.
What is the age limit?
Civilian applicants must not be more than 30 years old. NAPOLCOM's results releases describe civilian examinees as aged 21 to 30 on exam day. Patrolmen/Patrolwomen with a temporary appointment have no age limit for the exam.
How much is the exam fee?
NAPOLCOM's regional office pages list ₱400.00 for the PNP Entrance Examination. You pay it within 48 hours after your application is validated; if you miss that window, your application is forfeited.
Is height checked when I file for the exam?
Height is a requirement for PNP appointment under RA 11549: at least 1.57 m for men and 1.52 m for women, with a height waiver available to members of indigenous cultural communities. Some regional offices also process height waiver requests during filing, so bring your supporting documents if this applies to you.
When is the next exam?
The second 2026 exam was scheduled for October 18, 2026, so its results should come out within the next couple of months. NAPOLCOM has not yet announced the 2027 dates. Based on past cycles, the next exam is likely to be around April 2027, but wait for the official announcement on napolcom.gov.ph.
Does the eligibility expire?
NAPOLCOM issues a Certificate of Eligibility to passers. The pages we checked did not give any expiry date. Ask your NAPOLCOM Regional Office if you have questions about using an older eligibility for a specific recruitment.
What is the passing score?
The official pages we could access do not state the passing rating. It is widely reported as a 70% general rating. Your official Report of Rating from NAPOLCOM is the final word.
